LM Sherman is a fiction writer and lover of gothic literature.
She has a BA in Psychology and Gender Studies from Clark University, where she focused on women’s mental health. This passion is evident in her writing which tries to answer the question “what are women thinking, feeling, and experiencing?” It’s why classic tropes of the female gothic genre (female hysteria, overpowering villains, and locked doors) and psychological realism are often present in her work. She likes to dabble in other related genres as well, including horror, cosmic horror, eco-horror, weird fiction, speculative fiction, mystery, and suspense.
The first gothic fiction book she ever read was in the third grade (“The Secret Garden”) and she’s been an avid reader of the genre ever since. It was not until 2020, however, that she read “Wuthering Heights” and was inspired to write in the gothic tradition–and she hasn’t stopped since.
Born and raised in Connecticut, educated in Massachusetts, and currently residing in Vermont, the New England mud flows through her veins. The spooky fog-soaked landscapes of the region are the perfect settings for her gothic stories.
Before turning to fiction, LM Sherman was a nonprofit grant writer for over a decade. And before that, her first job was as a library page in her hometown. In another life, she’s probably still a librarian.
When she is not driving her fictional characters mad, she is hiking in the mountains, gardening her 10-acre plot of land, and walking the 65-pound hellhound that resides in her house.
